98 days...98 degrees

Looks to be another hot one today. Thinking about heading over to the local library to see if they have that awesome used book sale still going on: all the books you can fit into a plastic grocery bag for $3.00. I need to better peruse the cooking section, and I'm still hunting for Buckley & Quinnell books.

Rhapsody in Blue

I've been longingly sneaking peeks at our pool outside. Our first above-grounder, one of those that stands up as you fill it with water. (Is that cool to watch or what?) Every day that creeps above 80 I start to daydream about the sparkling blue water... is it still blue under that cover? All these thunderstorms have us wistful at the windows.

Rain, Rain

The best-laid plans... are often waylaid. Getting struck by lightning is a rare occurrence, but do you want to run across the Ikea parking lot carrying 2 small children, all for a couple of really cool floor lamps?

Indian Corn

Our corn is coming up nicely! Little red/pink silky threads flowing out like manes... (what kind of corn did she plant, anyway?? ) then the deer came and ate them off. Does this mean their rows will be uneven? They won't be sweet?

Sunflowers under Attack

We're surrounded by green stuff: trees, vines, plants, weeds, veggies, flowers, bushes and grass. My daughter and I planted 8 sunflowers, and we're now down to 1. We caught the deer last week chomping on them. Grandma the master gardener says they might grow back depending on the condition but it looks like the deer walked up to the plants (some were 4 ft tall) and just bit the top off. The last one is over 5 feet and I'm considering transplanting it into a pot and moving it to the deck. I'm just afraid to shock the roots.

Who knew deer would skip past acres of all this greenery and go right for the sunflowers? Oh, and for dessert they nibbled off the silky threads from our very first ears of corn. So much for sweet corn.

Good Clean Fun

Does anyone else really REALLY enjoy that first brush with a brand-new stiff and clean and crisp toothbrush? Any kind of toothpaste tastes refreshing on a new brush, but WOW does your mouth feel so much cleaner!

Just around the corner..

Now that America's Birthday has passed, I am reminded that one of my favorite pastimes is just around the corner: FOOTBALL!! Woot Woot!!! Football, fall, barbeques, fun. I'd love to join another fantasy league, strictly for fun as always, but I am worried I won't have time. Maybe hubby will start it again...
